Dogs

Is your canine friend driving you up the wall? Chewing the furniture? Urinating in the house? Barking all night? Never fear. Before considering the more drastic option of re-homing your dog, call the RSPCA for some friendly advice. We can talk to you about other options to help you and your pooch live a more harmonious life together.

Waiting list

At the RSPCA we understand that from time to time it may be necessary to surrender your dog for re-homing. As we are a small shelter and cater for many types of dogs (strays and surrenders) we do not always have the available kennel space for your dog.

We ask that people looking to re-home their dog place their name onto our waiting list. Having this list allows us to ensure that no dog is forgotten. When the kennel space becomes free and you have reached the top of the list, we will notify you to bring in your dog. Please be aware that from time to time the waiting period may be 4-6 weeks long.

Once you arrive at the shelter a staff member will sit with you and together create a profile for your dog. A shelter can be a stressful environment for a dog to come to and the behaviour of the dog may change. This profile allows us to get an idea of your dog's behaviour when not in a stressful environment.

We ask for a $50 surrender fee to help with the feeding, boarding and any medical treatment that your dog may need. Please bring along any belongings that you wish to send off with your dog and they will be passed onto the new owners.

Cats

Generally, you are able to surrender your cat to us at any time. We appreciate that you will provide us with some information about your cats' temperament and background. At certain times of the year, such as breeding season, we may be required to set up a waiting list of people wishing to surrender their cat. Please call RSPCA ACT to make sure that we can accommodate your cat before bringing it to us.

Small Animals

Small animals may be surrendered at any time. The surrender fee will depend on the type of animal, and how many are being surrendered. Please contact us for further information.
