For two days only RSPCA ACT is aiming to Clear the Shelter, offering reduced adoption prices of $29 for ALL animals available for adoption.
We currently have a number of cats, dogs, rabbits and birds available for adoption and we would love to see them find their forever homes.
Our regular adoption processes will still apply. If you plan on adopting, please be prepared to show Shelter staff pictures of the space your intended animal will be living in. This will include backyard and fencing, cat runs or aviaries, depending on the animals requirements.
If you are living in a rental property, written permission from your landlord is required.
We will be operating during our regular opening hours for the promotion:
Friday: 9am - 5pm
Animal Viewing Hours: 10am - 4pm
Saturday: 9am - 4pm
Animal Viewing Hours: 9am - 4pm
I’m interested in adoption, how can I see the animals available?
Thank you for your interest in adopting. All animals available for adoption can be found at https://www.rspca-act.org.au/adopt-pet. This site updates every 20 minutes and will show all animals available and information about their needs.
Do you put down the animals that aren’t adopted from this promotion?
Absolutely not! Last year almost all animals available for adoption found forever homes during the promotion and this year we are expecting the same. RSPCA ACT has no time limit on animals available for adoption. Some animals can stay in our care for months until they find their forever home.
How many animals do you have available for adoption?
RSPCA ACT will have approximately 100 animals available for adoption. Please keep an eye on our Adopt a Pet website that refreshes every 20 minutes with information on the animals available for adoption.
I can’t adopt between your promotion dates. Can I put an animal on hold and adopt it later at the same price?
Unfortunately, the discounted adoption fee is only available on the 21st and 22nd of February. We unfortunately cannot put any animals on hold as this could prevent them from going to forever homes sooner.
Are all animals adopted from RSPCA ACT desexed and Vet Checked?
All animals available for adoption come desexed and microchipped, have had their vaccinations and veterinary checks.
What are your opening hours for Clear the Shelter?
Animal viewing hours on Friday the 21st will be from 10am until 4pm with gates open at 9am, and Saturday the 22nd from 9am until 4pm.
What is your process of adopting on the day?
RSPCA ACT is expecting to be busy, so please keep in mind that you may have to wait to view our animals. Our team have created signs to show which animals are still available for adoption.
We have a variety of animals available for adoption. Upon arrival at the Shelter, staff and volunteers will provide adoption application forms to place you in the queue. This will help with the smooth transition of customers between areas and assist our team in making sure each family is suitable for adoption.
We ask that prior to attending the Shelter you please take note of the needs of animals as animals may not be suitable for your home or circumstances.
Families looking to adopt animals should bring along all members of the family on the day to ensure the animal is the right match.
If you are interested in adopting a dog and have another dog at home, it is extremely important that both dogs meet before adoption. Please bring your dog to the Shelter for a potential meet and greet, but we ask that they are left outside of our reception area with another adult and remain on a leash at all times.
If your family is interested in adopting a dog, please bring all family members to ensure that your home will be suitable for our four-legged friends.
I cannot adopt but would like to pay for someone’s adoption. Can I do this?
Thank you for wanting to make a difference in the life of someone looking to adopt. While we appreciate your support we do not want to be giving people free animals at the Shelter. Instead we ask that you perhaps sponsor an animal not yet available for adoption to assist with their mandatory desexing, microchipping and vaccinations prior to finding their forever home.
There are many issues with this $29 fee, why would you encourage this if you are going to have a high return rate?
We have had a number of reduced fee adoption promotions in the past and there is no difference in return rates when animals are adopted at a discounted rate. Most of the time, people are already on the lookout to adopt and this discounted fee means they can spend more on setting up their home and buying supplies for their new pets.
All of our normal adoption processes are still in place and our staff will conduct one-on-one interviews to ensure each animal goes to the right family.
