Today, RSPCA ACT and seven local vets have started the second annual “Frisky Tom” campaign. The campaign aims to desex 1,500 cats over a three-year period with the goal of reducing the unwanted cat population in the ACT. RSPCA ACT and participating vet clinics will offer FREE desexing to cat owners who hold a current Centrelink or DVA Gold Card, and live within the ACT or bordering NSW communities including Jerrabomberra, Queanbeyan, Googong and Karabar. It was just another day at RSPCA ACT in February this year, a little ball of white fluff arrived at the Shelter. At just six weeks old, the purebred Japanese Spitz was being surrendered into our care. The reason? After only two days his new owners were in over their heads. He barked too much, he had a skin condition, and what they thought they had ‘ordered’ from the website for about $2000 because of his cute photo wasn’t what they expected. RSPCA ACT would like to congratulate the ACT Legislative Assembly for changes made to the Animal Welfare in the ACT. Today political parties put aside their differences and came together to prove that the welfare of animals is of paramount importance in the ACT. A unanimous vote for the Animal Welfare Amendment Act 2016 has passed, with RSPCA ACT amongst the organisations that were approached to provide consultation on the changes. “The amendments will better support our Inspectors as they prosecute cases of neglect as well as implement compliance and other enforcement activities. We see this
