*DUE TO CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19), THE FORMAT AND DELIVERY OF OUR GROUP TRAINING CLASSES HAVE BEEN AMENDED TO INCLUDE THE CURRENT SOCIAL DISTANCING REGULATIONS*
RSPCA ACT Dog Training School classes are catered towards dogs and puppies of all different ages and abilities and are limited to eight (8) dogs per class to allow participants to receive more individual attention by our experienced instructors. Our aim is to give your dog the required skills to have a fulfilled, well-adjusted life with their family, using positive reinforcement. Training focuses on manners, impulse control, how to sit, drop, how to walk nicely on lead and how to introduce dogs to each other in a safe manner. This training is also designed to provide you, the dog’s leader, with the skills and confidence to create a relationship with your dog that is based on mutual trust, respect and consistent leadership.
Training courses run for five (5) consecutive weeks and each class has a duration of one (1) hour. Following the submission of an enrolment form, a staff member will contact you to provide additional information regarding your booking. Class dates and times may change subject to the number of bookings.
Courses are $195 and include one (1) pre-recorded online orientation and five (5) shelter-based training classes. Dogs and puppies that have been adopted from RSPCA ACT receive a 10% discount. This course fee also includes a client pack with a clicker training tool, treat pouch and the RSCPA Guide to Dog Behaviour and Training book. Client packs can be collected from the shelter at 12 Kirkpatrick Street, Weston ACT following payment.
On-lead meet and greets will be dependent on the dynamics of the classes and are at the trainer’s discretion. It is critical for all dogs to have a good or neutral experience when learning to interact with each other and for this reason, the instructors will decide if on-lead dog interactions occur.
Orientation and Course Type
All participants are required to view a pre-recorded orientation online prior to the commencement of their course. This orientation is designed to provide education around the fundamentals of dog behaviour and positive reinforcement training. You will have access to the orientation once the course payment has been made. Arrangements can be made for participants who cannot access online content.
We are currently offering two courses, a puppy and a dog course. If you are unsure of which class to choose based on your dog’s abilities, choose ‘please help me select’ on your enrolment form. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we understand that older dogs and puppies may not have been exposed to earlier training opportunities and we can accommodate these situations.
